How young can a child start voice lessons?

Around age eight for most students. Before that, the voice and attention span are usually better served by piano or a general music class, which still builds the ear a singer needs.

Will lessons change my natural voice?

No. Training removes strain and expands what your voice can already do. Nobody here will try to turn a pop singer into an opera singer or the reverse.

Can you help with musical theater auditions?

Yes. We build audition books, cut songs to 16 and 32 bars, and rehearse the acting beats along with the notes. Local theater auditions and college programs are both regular work here.

Is belting safe for teenagers?

Belting is safe when it is built on breath support and a coordinated mix. We teach it deliberately and slowly, and we stop if a student is pushing rather than supporting.

What should I do about a voice that cracks or tires quickly?

Tell your teacher in the first lesson. Fatigue and cracking usually trace back to breath support, hydration, or a register transition that has not been trained yet. Persistent hoarseness is worth a doctor visit.

Do singers perform in recitals?

Yes, and voice students often perform with piano accompaniment from one of our faculty. Performance is optional but strongly encouraged.

Who voice lessons are for

We start most singers around age eight, once a student can follow breath instructions and sustain a phrase. Younger children are often better served by a piano or general music start, and we will tell you if that is the case.

Teen theater kids, worship team singers, wedding soloists, and adults who have only ever sung in the car all study here. Nobody is auditioned in to begin.

Lesson format and tuition

Voice lessons are private and weekly, held in a studio with a piano so your teacher can accompany you. Bring water, and expect to record parts of the lesson on your phone so your practice matches what your teacher heard.

30 minutes

Best for younger beginners and anyone building a first practice habit. Enough time for warm-ups, one concept, and a piece.

45 minutes

Our most popular length. Room for technique, theory, repertoire, and a few minutes to work through whatever came up during the week.

For advancing students, audition and recital prep, and adults who want to go deep in a single sitting.
