What size violin does my child need?

Sizing depends on arm length, not age. We measure at the first lesson and tell you exactly which fractional size to rent. Most students move up a size every year or two.

Should we buy or rent a violin?

Rent while your child is still growing. Rental programs apply credit toward a purchase later, and outgrowing a bought instrument in ten months is an expensive lesson.

Do you teach the Suzuki method?

We draw on Suzuki repertoire and its listening-first approach, combined with traditional reading instruction, so students can play by ear and read notation.

When do students start vibrato?

Usually a year or two in, once the left hand frame and intonation are steady. Starting vibrato early tends to hide pitch problems rather than fix them.

Can lessons help with school orchestra auditions?

Yes. We work directly from the audition excerpts and scale requirements, and we run mock auditions so the room feels familiar on the day.

Is there an ensemble my violinist can join?

Our youth orchestra gives string students section experience, conductor cues, and the habit of listening across a group, which private lessons alone cannot teach.

What you'll learn

Violin is unforgiving early and generous later. The first months are about setup, because posture and bow hold decide how everything after them sounds. Once the foundation holds, students move quickly into position work and real repertoire.

Setup and first tone

Who violin lessons are for

Violin is one of the few instruments a four or five year old can genuinely start, because fractional sizes go down to 1/16. Young starts work best with a parent who sits in and helps with home practice.

School orchestra students make up a large part of our string studio, usually coming in for intonation, shifting, or audition preparation. Adults are welcome and often progress faster than they expect, since they can self-diagnose.

Lesson format and tuition

Violin lessons are private and weekly. We help families size and rent an instrument before the first lesson, since a violin that is too large will slow a student down more than anything else. Rosin, a shoulder rest, and a tuner round out the kit.

30 minutes

Best for younger beginners and anyone building a first practice habit. Enough time for warm-ups, one concept, and a piece.

45 minutes

Our most popular length. Room for technique, theory, repertoire, and a few minutes to work through whatever came up during the week.

60 minutes

For advancing students, audition and recital prep, and adults who want to go deep in a single sitting.
